It is the instructor's belief that one-to-one instruction is invaluable for learning this ancient healing art. It allows the training to be modified according to individual needs and learning styles with an intuitive hands-on approach. Classes are therefore provided with a maximum of 10 students to ensure an optimal learning environment.

Spirit Winds School of Thai Massage offers Intensive Trainings in Thai Massage as well as Introductory trainings.

We have a housing list which gives students private rooms in homes near by with use of the kitchen for $25-35/night and a full list of motels/hotels, B&Bs and camping. This list is given to you when you register for a training.

This course will provide you with a strong foundation in the study of Thai Massage.

You will learn:

• 134 techniques from the northern style tradition.
• A therapeutic approach to the body which never goes to a level of pain or beyond the clients limits of comfort.
• The use of proper body alignment and awareness while performing each technique.
• All 4 positions (front, back, side and sitting) as taught by the Institute of Thai Massage (ITM) in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
• Mindfulness through yoga, meditation, and Qi Gong
  

Northern style is a slow, rhythmic massage focusing on soft tissue, producing a meditative and relaxing experience.
The 134 techniques taught will give you 3 times more than can be performed in a 1 1/2 hour session. This gives you creative alternatives and flexibility in developing individually modified sessions. This course is recognized by the Institute in Chiang Mai as a "Sister program." People receiving this certificate may go directly to advanced training levels in Thailand if they so desire. Instruction manuals are included in the fee.

Supervised Clinic
In-Clinic practice completes this program with session practice. This is a valuable opportunity to integrate the techniques from levels I and II and to learn modifications and session routines by working on clients and fellow students in the Spirit Winds Clinic. This supervised practice makes a marked difference in the time it may take a student to gain confidence with the techniques and to begin to intuitively apply them in Thai massage sessions.

Level III Advanced Sen Line Therapies
Thai massage is based on the theory that "chi" our life force energy, flows through a system of channels called sen lines. When chi is blocked tension, dysfunction or disease are created in our bodies. Using palpation combined with active and passive stretching previously learned in the Level 1 and 2 program, Level 3 focuses on advanced sen line therapies for special conditions. This then prepares you for the next level of training.
Level IV Advanced Therapeutic Thai Massage
In Level 4 you will gain in-depth knowledge of acupressure points from the Chinese system. You will learn how to work the points effectively for relieving painful conditions. You will begin to cultivate an intuitive approach to the body and how to apply therapeutic skills in a dynamic flow for transformational healing.

You will learn:
o The theory of the energy line system used in Thai medical massage called "sen"
o A comparison of the sen lines with the12 meridians (Chinese)and the nadis (India)
o The therapeutic application of sen in combination with techniques from level 1& 2
o Advanced therapies for special conditions
o Acupressure points for headache, back pain, shoulder and neck problems, and numbness in the legs and arms

If you would like to incorporate some Thai massage into your current practice or you find it difficult to work in the Traditional Thai style on a mat, this will be a creative approach to Thai massage done on a table.

Thai Herbal Massage

9am-4pm. This one-day class teaches the benefits of using steamed herbal packs and sauna with herbs from Thailand. The student will learn the specific properties of each herb and how to apply them during a massage. The heat of the steamed herbal packs deeply penetrates muscles and tendons, facilitating relaxation and therapeutic benefit.

Thai Foot Massage
Learn specialized Thai foot massage techniques that will provide you with a 30 minute session
all on the feet. Theory of reflexology will be incorporated. Burmese powder will be used in the first portion of the treatment and then Exotic Thai oils used in the second portion creating a divine and effective foot treatment.
